 Strawberry Huller
Stainless steel strawberry huller, removes the top leaves from strawberries. I guess you could also call this utensil a strawberry stem tool, stem remover, or leaf puller. Anyway it's a handy gadget, better than using a knife because it removes just the stem without cutting off the top of the strawberry. Made in China by Bright Idea, quality is good. About 2-1/2" long.
Our apologies ... this was a close out deal and we've run out of this item ... looking for a new source.
Recipe for strawberry shortcake: Wash and hull 2 pints of berries, mash them up with around 1/2 cup sugar (how much sugar to use depends on how sweet the berries are.) Let these stand while you prepare the shortcake. In a bowl mix 2 cups of all-purpose flour with 1 tablespoon sugar, 1 tablespoon baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Cut in 1/2 cup shortening (soft butter or margarine) until the mixture is course, then add about 1/2 cup milk until mixture becomes a soft dough. Knead on a floured surface, about 8 or 10 times, then pat into an 8" round cake pan, greased. Bake at 400 degrees 15 or 20 minutes until golden. When done, slice the shortcake in half with a long knife so you have two 8" round pieces, a top and a bottom. Layer half the strawberries onto the bottom shortcake, put the top on, then layer on the rest of the berries, and top with whipped cream. Makes a beautiful strawberry shortcake dessert.
