Clay Pie Plate, Pomaireware™. A nice, fairly heavy clay baking dish. Great for pies, and also works well as a general purpose baking dish.
About 10" top outside diameter; about 2" tall with 1-3/4" useful baking depth. Bottom diameter is around 7". Hand made in Chile - dimensions are approximate.
The clay walls on this earthy item are around 1/4" thick, so it's heavy and it will bake somewhat different than a metal pan. Holds about 32 fluid ounces.

Clay bakeware has been hand made in Pomaire, Chile since the mid 1800's. This distinctive piece is both functional and decorative; it cooks well and makes a unique serving dish.
Ovens work around the clock in Pomaire, packed full of clay pieces. Each item is formed, dried, then smoothed and burnished with an agate stone before being fired. No glaze or varnish is used, the only ingredient is lead free clay. It takes around 8 hours in the oven to create the dry, hard finish. This is a hand made item, so no two are exactly alike, and each one has it's own blemishes and shades of color.
Very popular all over Chile for baking and serving. Use soft utensils such as wood, bamboo, or plastic; hand wash. While the finish is fairly tough, it could be cured by cooking with oil at first. Bear in mind that this clay is somewhat porous it is not glazed, so if left sitting with water in it some leakage may occur. Cooking oil is thicker and will not soak through.
